I used to live on Vandalia Lake, so I knew what to expect from the location - but the house is much nicer than pretty much anything else you'll find in Vandalia. It was the perfect place to spend the weekend while celebrating my granny's 82nd, and it's very likely we'll rent it again in the future, assuming it remains available for that purpose. The main living/kitchen/dining area is wide open and great for hanging out without feeling cramped, and the screened balcony/patio is a lovely place to enjoy the outdoors without being forced to "enjoy" the bugs. Everything is light, airy, modern, and well-maintained. This isn't one of those listings where the photos look great and the reality is worn and dirty - what you see is what you get.

Platypus Hills is a superb retreat! The home was perfectly equipped, clean and so comfortable! Danielle, Susie, Nancy & Dawn are perfect hosts! Available and friendly but respectful of your privacy. The setting is idyllic and provided me and friends a peaceful and relaxing get away that left us refreshed and re-energized. Just loved our time! Thank you all!

This house was perfect for our girls’ weekend. Plenty of comfortable spaces to hang out both inside and outside. Comfy beds. Overall very peaceful, which is exactly what we needed!

This place is amazing! Lots of room to spread out, games to play for kids and an amazing water front and back yard. Will definitely recommend to family and friends in the area.

Our stay was absolutely amazing. Photos do not do this place justice its absolutely beautiful. Additionally, this was a fully stocked kitchen trashbags, paper towels and coffee it was so nice not having to run to the store immediately. The layout is awesome and the lake view is gorgeous. Will definitely be coming back and would highly recommend.

Super cute home. The location on the river is absolutely beautiful. Dzenad and his team responded quickly with any questions we had and made sure the house was spotless for our arrival. They communicated early how to gain entry and to let us know the checkout process. Would definitely stay again.

My family came to stay here while we visited the capitol and went on a ghost tour of the state prison. Beautiful place and location. The weather kept us from using the outdoor area as much as we wanted to. This didn’t take away from our enjoyment much. We all enjoyed our stay, and every communication with the host was timely, friendly, and helpful. We took her advice on a BBQ spot in town, and it was excellent. We would recommend a stay, and my wife and I may come back in the future.

My family had a wonderful time at this beautiful, magical farm. We loved meeting the animals and enjoying the outdoor space. I was quite taken with a cute family of ducks who would wander the property, quacking cute ducky things to each other. The weather is still pretty chilly, so we really enjoyed the fire pit in the evening. The renovated milk house space was perfect. There were many small touches that made the space feel personal and comfortable. The kitchen was well appropriated and we were easily able to prepare meals when we didn’t want to eat out. Also! The fresh eggs Susan left for us were next level amazing. We’d definitely like to stay again!

Our stay was perfect! Alisa was an accommodating host and easy to communicate with. Her place is exactly what is pictured and is as described. My kids loved her DVD collection and we had a great time playing games — we were indoors mostly since the weather wasn’t cooperating for fishing. We felt completely comfortable!

The pictures don’t do this house justice. Beautiful views, comfortable and clean accommodations. We had everything we needed. Host was very responsive and kind. Thank you for allowing us to check in a bit early. It really helped after 3 long days of traveling.

Tammy's home was just as the pictures show it. Very clean. Well-equipped kitchen. Beautiful views. Lots of space. We watched deer and other wildlife. The wifi was slow, but we weren't trying to work. Vandalia is close with all the necessities. We even went into St. Louis a couple of days. Tammy was quick to respond when we had questions.

Kim’s place was amazing. Peaceful setting, great communication, everything was just as described plus a ton of thoughtful additions and amenities.

Luke was quick to respond about a low battery issue with the thermostat. He is very personable and easy to talk to. One slight issue with there being an ironing board but no iron and one side of the couch was loose. Beautiful scenery, right on the water; ducks, geese and we even saw an eagle several times!! My family and I would definitely stay here again!!! Thanks, Luke!!

Barbara’s place was peaceful and relaxing. She was a very responsive host and provided everything we needed.

We have stayed her a couple times and love it. The cabin is very clean and well kept. The view of the pond is beautiful and peaceful. If we need to get a hold of the host they are very responsive and help with whatever we need asap. We will be back to stay again

Great little cabin in the woods by the lake. Felt cozy just as it should, will be back.

The Turkey Bluff Cabin was a perfect romantic getaway for 2. Next time we will bring our 8 yr old to try our luck fishing. We loved our stay even after 4 days of rain and canceling our original plan of tent camping all weekend. We enjoyed a nice fire and the gas stove indoors instead.

This place was great. There isn’t much around here to do, especially in the winter, but we were looking to mostly disconnect from the outside world for a week and this was great for that. Aside from laundry there is really is everything you need to live here full time including a fully stocked kitchen with various helpful appliances like a crock pot and toaster stashed away but accessible. Perfect for a few days or a full week! It was a little dusty in some spots but otherwise clean and well kept. Had a great time. Hoping to come back when the weather is warmer and take advantage of the lake!

My husband and I had such a lovely trip to this cabin. It was literally perfect. The area is so private, peaceful, and super spacious! We could not recommend this Airbnb enough!! Jensena is super kind, accommodating, and responsive! She even left us some goodies when we arrived, and the cabin was spotless! The pictures are stunning, but nothing compared to the home in person! If you are thinking about renting it, do it!!!

Carol’s cabin was amazing. It was beautiful, clean, and exactly what we wanted. I will definitely stay again when I’m back in the area. Highly recommend Carols cabin to anyone traveling in this area.

I felt right at home between the cozy cabin and the hospitality, you can't beat it!! This family is very warm and welcoming. It is by far the cutest airbnb I've ever stayed in, Gloria has it decorated very nice. My boyfriend and I loved it so much we decided to book 2 more stays with this host. Before I booked, I wasn't sure what to expect with the size of the cabin, but was pleasantly surprised with the layout. It is perfect and there's plenty of room for us two, our child and a big dog! 10/10 recommend.
